Game One
The SoCal Shepherds dropped game one of a doubleheader this afternoon after allowing 17 runs over the seven innings played, the Shepherds scored 7 runs on the day. Right fielder Tanner Smith lead the day offensively for the Sheps, going 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBI. Nathan Weatherly continued his hot start to the 2020 season, also picking up two hits on the day. Pitching was again inconsistent for the Shepherds in game one. Joey Scotvold and Caleb Pollema each looked sharp out of the Shepherd bullpen, with Scotvold striking out four over an inning and two thirds, and Pollema struck out three of the four batters he faced.
Game Two
The Shepherds won game two of the doubleheader on Sunday afternoon to pick up their first victory of the season. Shepherds’ starter Jacob Brothers was sharp, as he opened the game with three scoreless innings and worked his way out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the third to keep the score 2-0. Tanner Smith continued his hot streak from game one, going 2 for 3 with a three-run home run and an RBI single. Nathan Weatherly hit his second home run of the season with a solo shot to left in the bottom of the second and added an RBI single in the fourth to tie the game at four. Emry Jackson did it all for the Shepherds, starting the game at first base, Jackson drove in two at the plate and then struck out the final batter of the game for the save. The Shepherds are now 1-3 on the season.
