Training overview

Our Philosophy

After spending the previous five years as a competitor in college summer ball leagues, we began to notice a couple of trends arising each year. Following the spring season, some pitchers and hitters will have thrown upwards of 35-50 innings or collected 150+ ABs in the spring and will be encouraged to shut it down over the summer with minimal opportunities for continued development other than the local commercial gym. Conversely, some players will leave the spring season with just a handful of innings or opportunities to gain in-game experience and are thrust into the summer ball scene with the direction of “we need you to go play during the summer to be prepared for next year.”

Both sets of players are left with the same question: “How do I maximize my time and resources over the summer to come back in the fall ready to contribute to my team?”

We have worked to develop a summer schedule that gives both position players and pitchers the structure and environment necessary to develop healthy routines, continue to face live hitters/pitchers and build good habits in the weight room.

I was able to gain more confidence and learn from other ball players. It was nice to have a more controlled atmosphere with live at bats!

our model

We have built a model centered around data-driven live at-bats in which both halves will be able to ramp themselves up to game speed and intensity while in a controlled, coachable environment. These Shepherds are able to gauge their growth and development in measurable ways following our initial assessments of their strengths and abilities and are instructed to build consistent routines of work and rest.

“Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.” 1 Corinthians 9:25-27
